Ordering Online Prescription Eyeglasses Gila Bend Arizona

Cheap Floral EyeglassesIf you have purchased prescription eyeglasses in Gila Bend AZ, then you are well aware of what a couple of glass lenses and a frame can cost, especially if you are wearing a pair of designer eyeglasses. Add to it the inconvenience and added expense of having to make an appointment with your Optometrist or Ophthalmologist, and it soon becomes an expensive proposition.  You may even have to wait for an appointment to open up sometime in the future.  But what if you could buy eyeglasses online instead?  And what if you could skip the office visit and purchase online right now from an eyewear vendor that could offer you a substantial discount compared to your Optometrist?  Does it sound too good to be true?  Well let’s take a look at how you can buy your next set of eyeglass frames and lenses online at a fraction of the cost you have been used to paying.

Purchasing Glasses Requires a Prescription

young woman in Gila Bend AZ wearing round glassesTo purchase prescription eyeglasses or prescription sunglasses, you must obviously have, you guessed it, your prescription.  What many people do not realize is that your Gila Bend AZ Optometrist must provide a copy of your lens prescription upon request.  In fact, it is a violation of Federal law for your doctor not to give it to you if you ask for it.  Unfortunately, most Optometrists will guide you right into their room where they have eyeglass frames displayed immediately after your eye exam.  They do not volunteer that you are not required to purchase Rx eyeglasses from an Optometrist at full retail prices.  Some of the types of eyewear that you can purchase online at a discount are:

  • Prescription Glasses
  • Prescription Sunglasses
  • Reading Glasses
  • Prescription Safety Glasses
  • Designer Eyeglasses
  • Bifocals
  • Rimless Eyeglasses
  • And Kids Glasses

Many eyeglass websites will not require that you actually upload your scanned prescription or fax it to them.  What is important is that you provide the correct numbers and the type of lenses, i.e. single-vision or multi-focal.  If your Optometrist provides them in a handwritten format that is not easy to read, make sure that you confirm them for accuracy or ask for a typed version.

Provide Pupillary Distance for Online Glasses

There are self-measuring methods that you can use in a pinch, but having your doctor measure is the best method.  But be prepared when asking for your prescription and PD to receive a lecture about the risks of buying glasses online.  It may also provide an opportunity to discuss with your doctor if there is any reason why you should not buy glasses online due to the nature of your prescription or fitting requirements.

Order the Right Glasses and Frames

There are some additional things that you should keep in mind when ordering your glasses or sunglasses online to ensure that you are happy with your purchase.

  • Order the right frame size. Wearing glasses that don’t fit properly is both uncomfortable and unattractive.  Frames have three size components: eye size, bridge size and temple size.  Check to see what size your current frames are, or use the size guide that most websites provide.
  • Order glasses that complement your face. The right glasses can add to your appearance and the wrong ones can detract from it. Pick glasses that “fit” your face structure and are flattering.  Many websites have guidelines that will assist you in picking the right frames.
  • Order frames that fit your personality. Color, shape, and materials all add to eyewear style.  Be sure to pick frames that not only fit your personality, but also your wardrobes.  Don’t forget, you will most likely not only be wearing your glasses for casual events, but also for more formal ones as well as at work.
  • Order the right lens material and coatings. There are three basic types of eye lens material: plastic, polycarbonate and high index 1.67.   Each is appropriate for specific uses, such as polycarbonate for athletes, and high index 1.67 for high prescriptions. There are also a variety of coatings that you can have applied to your lenses, such as a UV coating to protect your eyes from the sun.

Some Fun Facts About Gila Bend Arizona

If you are living in the Gila Bend AZ area, following is some interesting background history and other facts that may find interesting as well as useful as you search for your new eyewear.

Gila Bend, Arizona

Gila Bend (/ˌhiːlə ˈbɛnd/; O'odham: Hila Wi:n), founded in 1872, is a town in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. The town is named for an approximately 90-degree bend in the Gila River, which is near but not precisely at the community's current location.[4] According to the 2010 census, the population of the town is 1,922.[2]

The town of Gila Bend is situated near an ancient Hohokam village. Father Eusebio Francisco Kino was the first European to visit in 1699 on his first journey of exploration to the Colorado River. The Hohokam site along fertile banks of the Gila River had been abandoned and other tribes, lived in the vicinity. 132 Pima people lived in a rancheria called Oyadaibuc or as Kino named it San Felipe y Santiago del Oyadaibuc, near the modern town, and other Pima lived in three rancherias up river to the north mixed with the Cocomaricopa or Opa. During one of his three visits to Gila Bend, Kino counted 960 Opas living in their own rancherias down river to the west of Oyadaibuc as far as a few miles beyond Agua Caliente.[5]:26–27 The Opa and Pima used the flood waters of the river to irrigate their crops. Oyadaibuc was also visited by Juan Bautista de Anza, commander of the Presidio at Tubac and founder of the city of San Francisco, and by Father Francisco Tomas Garces in 1774.[6] As late as the 1820s Maricopa were living at Gila Bend. After the 1820s, the Maricopa, under relentless pressure from the Yuma and other tribes, and population loss from epidemics, had been compelled to leave the Gila Bend and join the Pima in the Middle Gila region. By the time of the California Gold Rush the Maricopa villages, were all located east of the Sierra Estrella, on the Gila River, below the Pima Villages.[5]:111–112

During the Mexican–American War, the expeditions of Kearny (1846), Cooke (1847) and Graham (1847) passed through the area but found no village. Only Graham found corn stubble on the riverside with which to graze his cattle.[7]:21–22 From 1849 what became the Southern Emigrant Trail passed through the area which by 1854 had acquired the name Tezotal or Tesotal, from name of the scientific name of the desert ironwood tree, (Olneya tesota) given it in the botanical report of the Boundary Survey along the Gila River led by William H. Emory.[8]:117,132
